AMIT PATHAK

DR. AMIT PATHAK

He is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Military History and Conflict Studies (formerly Center for Armed Forces Historical Research), United Service Institution of India, New Delhi. He is fluent in Hindi, English and Assamese and is an avid student of History, Culture, Archeology, Anthropology etc. He has been continuously working since 2001 on various aspects of the Great Uprising of 1857 and has been studying as well as documenting the history and culture of Western Uttar Pradesh. He has also been recording and preserving the oral as well as documented folk renditions of this rapidly urbanizing region. He has many publications to his credit in the above fields of study including four books on history and culture. At present he is working on books linked to the Military History of India (1000AD to 1800 AD), 1857 Uprising in Western Uttar Pradesh, and the anti-colonial Uprisings of North- Eastern India. He is a practicing Radiologist focusing on Gastrointestinal Ultrasonography and Nephrology / Urology as well as interventional ultrasonography. He has many publications to his credit in this field and is at present working on a book on Hepato-Biliary Ultrasonography.

Renovation of Government Freedom Struggle Museum, Meerut

A complete renovation of the galleries of the museum was undertaken in the second half of 2021 and five galleries were established dedicated to the Great Uprising of 1857. The first gallery describes the events as they occurred in Meerut triggering the revolt. The second gallery describes events as they occurred in North Western Uttar Pradesh. The third gallery is dedicated to events of Delhi, Kanpur and Lucknow. The fourth gallery has events of Rohilkhand, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal regions. The fifth gallery showcases uprisings that occurred in other parts of India. The displays are created with images of original documents and newspaper articles of the Great Uprising published / printed in 1857 – 58, as well as paintings by contemporary artists of the events as well as the primary leadership that led the revolt.

It was a great honour for us that the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi, visited the Government Freedom Struggle Museum, Meerut, on 2nd January, 2022. He visited all the galleries and took keen interest in its display. He was accompanied by the Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri. Yogi Adityanath and the Honourable Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Mafatbhai Patel.

The Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri. Yogi Adityanath visited the Government Freedom Struggle Museum on 2nd January 2022 as well as on 10th May, 2022. It was an honour and privilege for me to have given him a guided tour of the five galleries of the museum.
